I know travel is not an opportunity given to everyone in ministry. This is the beauty of living overseas in ministry. The whole earth is the heart of God, not just one tribe, one tongue, one culture – all of it breathes of who He is. The beauty of my life overseas is to see and learn and find I was not so singularly right in all I knew in my small context – that there is much much more, and it looks different than I ever thought. I am more like Jesus because I have been with people who are not like me.
And it is not just the chance to live in one different place, but for us, we are able to easily travel to close countries for a getaway and get to taste so many beautiful parts of God’s creation. The delicious foods, the nature, the people. It all rejuvenates and speaks of Him. It is a blessing that I know we are lucky to have and many desire.
Even in this perk of ministry, we are not those who have “made it.” We have not arrived at the life others want – to travel the world. There is rarely good in life that does not come with great struggle. To live overseas we must give up a lot of perks, but we cherish the joys we are given, to see more of Him. He is limitless. This we begin to discover as we travel and see how truly diverse and exciting our God is.
Job 12:7-10 But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
