We can get so caught up in the busyness of the season. For example, we can love gift buying, wrapping and giving. We can delight in the baking of cookies, fudge and fresh back goods. We can enjoy the parties, the concerts and the get-togethers. But it is always best to purposely set up a time to spend time with God each day. I have 5 simple prayers for the holidays that you can start this week.
1st Prayer
Father, thank you for giving up everything when you sent your Son at Christmas. Remind me how I can love others this season like you have. If there is something I need to release or give up, in exchange for peace and joy, please show me. Release the hold that I have on “things” so I can see you more.
2nd Prayer
Lord, I’m feeling rushed, pressed for time, and stressed. I know some of this is normal, but please help me to find a small piece of time to be still, be calm, and remember — remember the atmosphere you came to create for me.
3rd Prayer
Heavenly Father, there is so much uncertainty right now. Each day is another reminder that I am not in control. I know that rest and relief can only come from the one who is —You! Thank you for being in complete control of everything. Thank you for the reminders I see at this time of year. This time of joy, fellowship, love, happiness…allow me to stay awhile in that.
4th Prayer
God, there is so much to be thankful for. Today I want to actively find those pieces of blessing and gratitude and offer it back to you as a gift! You have blessed us with so much! You never forget me, you never leave me, you never take time off, and you welcome me into a relationship with you. Help me to be still and ponder that in my heart for a while.
5th Prayer
Jesus, I don’t understand how you could be so willing to leave a perfect life in heaven, for little ol’ me. Why you came here, to a messed up earth, to a messed up me, is hard to understand. But it has surely given me a picture of true love at this Christmas time. I hope you see in my life my desire to love you and serve you more!
May you take these 5 simple prayers for the holidays and read them as a prayer to God starting today. Share them with your family and friends. Most of all, take some quiet time with just you and God to celebrate this Christmas and worship the King of kings.
