There is nothing like holding a worn and well read Bible in your hands. I have gone through many in my lifetime and, as such, told myself I would never use an electronic app for my personal devotions.
Well, I gave in.
Although I still much prefer to read from my well loved Bible, for practical purposes I decided to try a Bible reading app in order to read through the whole Bible. I chose the “Olive Tree Bible App”. And I have been pleasantly surprised. On the app, you are able to choose from a variety of reading plans and I chose a chronological one. I have very much enjoyed it as it gives you passages to read in chronological order. So I can be reading about David’s life in I Samuel and then jump to Psalms that he wrote during that time in his life. It has been a great way to keep things “straight” in my mind.
The app also allows you to highlight, make notes, and look up definitions of words. I have found that to be quite practical, as well. It lets you know where you are in the reading plan and what percentage you have left. For this stage of my life, it has been a very helpful tool.
So while I definitely still prefer reading from the pages of my worn and well read bible, I can also recommend this form of Bible reading for organizing the reading through of the Bible for personal devotions. Give it a try. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130
I love how there is so many ways to read and study God’s word. It is also so wonderful when we have friends to read or talk over what we have learned. Our mentors could be that friend if you are looking for a bible study friend. Check out how you can connect with a mentor today. www.breatheministry.com/mentor/
