What is change?  Merriam-Webster simply defines it as “to become different”.  We tend to dislike change.  We try to avoid it.  But change is inevitable.  It’s really the one thing we are guaranteed in life.  Change.

So why do we try to avoid change if it is the one thing we can always count on?  Why do we fear it and allow it to overcome us with anxiety?  Because we don’t have control over it, and we want to be in control.  Because it stretches our comfort levels, and challenges our expectations, our routines, and how we view the world.

Fortunately, there is One who never changes, who walks through the uncertainties of life with us.  And He wants to see change in our life.  It is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world…to change it one heart at a time.  If we trust God and allow Him to change us from the inside out, we will become more like Christ…our ultimate goal as Christ-followers.  And when we become more like Jesus in how we act and respond, we are promised that all things will work together for our good, change included.

Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

Don’t lose heart, friends.  Change is inevitable, but when God is involved, it’s achieving eternal glory.  And that is worth changing for!

There is nothing permanent except change.
