Community is life for all of us. It is important for us as we mentor certain individuals and as we enter into new friendships. For some of us, this can be really scary and for others really exciting.
For me – it is both.
Meeting new friends is so exciting for me. I get to learn all about their passions, stories, history, and likes. But at times, I am afraid that I am not good enough to help them through life. This is when I am reminded of God’s truth – that the Holy Spirit will guide and direct me in all situations that he has called me to.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.14 I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another.” Romans 15:13-14
So for the next month….
We go into February, talking about Friendships. God made us for community no matter
what we do for a living,
who we are married to,
how old we are,
what kind of personality we have.
Being in ministry can be isolating.
It can scare us away from relationships for many good reasons. But God has called us with certain boundaries, to love one another. Friendships are important not only for the growth of those around us but for our own growth.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
So are you ready?
Are you ready to reach out in friendship to get to know those around you?
God has called us to community and community is life.
