Deep Roots

As women in ministry it is easy for us to become excited about God’s calling in our lives. We want to shout and proclaim the passion we have for our work and the furthering of God’s Kingdom. However, it is important to discern when we are fully equipped to carry out the calling that God has placed on our hearts. It is easy for us to say, “Here I am! I’m ready!” but are we truly prepared to take on the role we desire and believe God has given us? We must be careful about God’s timing and be patient in our journey. We must spiritually equip ourselves to deal with the trials, questions, and the potential attack we might receive from the enemy. When people strive to become successful too quickly and without preparation, they find that they fail in their tasks.

Scripture tells us that wisdom is the preservation of those who use the Holy Spirit for guidance. As women in ministry we must strive to find spiritual roots that come from God’s wisdom and knowing his ultimate, biblical based, truths and guidance. Consider this, a tree can grow and flourish and carry many leaves, but what happens when a storm hits and the tree is winded? If the roots of the tree are not grounded and deep then the entire tree suffers. It bends, it leans, and sometimes even breaks. For those of us who strive to be further than where we are, we must remember that, like the tree, we need our roots to be deep. Our hearts must be imbedded with the wisdom of Christ’s teachings.

The dream or desire God has placed within your heart is there for a reason. It is my experience that God does place idle dreams in our lives, however, he does call us to ask for his timing and his preparation to fulfill them. Pray and ask God to steady your footsteps and direct your ministry paths.

Ecclesiastes 7:12 – “Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it.” (NIV)
