Environment of Gratitude

Gratefulness is an amazing quality to find in a person!  As a mom, I’m constantly trying to instill an attitude of gratefulness into my children.  I’m often frustrated at what seems like the futility of this task, but just as I get frustrated with them, I also understand that I struggle in this area of my life as well.  Our human nature is to complain, it seems to be our “go to” move. Colossians 3:17 says “whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

What is it about us that makes us go right to complaining?  If we are honest, the hardest times in our lives bring really good things.  The worst times of my life have brought the greatest gifts in my life. I’m truly grateful for them, in retrospect.  This month is notorious for being the month of thankfulness, but what if we were thankful all year long. What if we were even grateful for the tough stuff.  If we were thankful for all things, we would create an environment of gratefulness. I dare say it would even be contagious.

I guess that is what Paul did.  While he was in jail he wrote “I have learned in whatever situation, I am to be content.” (Phillippians 4:11)  You don’t have to scroll facebook too long to see that there are not many content people out there. Maybe the greatest way to share Jesus’ love, it just to be grateful…truly grateful!  So this November, let’s start an environment of gratitude that will carry on throughout the year.
