“I feel selfish for setting boundaries in ministry. I am supposed to serve.”
Don’t you think most people in ministry have likely said or thought these words or some form of them. Yes?
Let’s ask this question: What would Jesus do?
Luke 5:16 tells us that “He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”
We see in Mark 6:31, that the Twelve returned to Jesus and tell Him all they had done. He instructed them to, ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
Jesus could have served Himself into the ground while He was on earth. But He knew His mission and set His priorities so as to accomplish that mission. He drew boundaries around Himself and the Twelve so they could rest, recharge, and do what they were called to do… and not one thing other than what God decreed for them to do.
Setting boundaries for your life and the life of your family helps you to be able to rest, recharge, and do the things that God has called you to do.
So, sweet friend, exercise your ‘No’ muscle when appropriate. Carve out time and space for yourself and your family. Learn to not feel selfish for setting boundaries. You will be a much better servant of God and child of the King when you do.
