What comes to mind when you think of Hospitality? If you’re anything like me, you picture a welcome home with a big spread of food. You see people with open arms at the door. A year ago, a friend asked if I would join her for a Bible study on the She Reads Truth app. It was called “Making Room: A Study of Biblical Hospitality.” This piqued my interest, so of course, I was all in. I learned that hospitality is so much more!
Warning: this is not a feel-good study that will pat you on the back. But I am going to wholeheartedly recommend it anyway!
This is a two-week study, that is all, seems like no time at all,. But it has truly impacted my life. Each day begins with reading several passages of the Bible,. Then reading on topics like Making Room for Others, Making Room for your Neighbor; Making Room for the Poor; Making Room for your Betrayers…and the list goes on.
Let me say, in my self-righteousness, I thought I was pretty good at making room for others. Even if it was at my own cost. I often put my friends’ needs before my own. But I was quickly convicted about the extent at which we should be hospitable to others…especially those who treat us badly. Dart to the heart, right there.
Recently, my husband and I have decided to be a part of a team to plant a church to the unchurched. I started reading this study again, with a new perspective about how God would want me to be hospitable in difficult situations. If you are looking to minister, truly minister, to those around you, I highly recommend this study. This study will show you how your hospitality is so much more.
