I don’t know about you, but after the craziness of 2020, I have been looking forward to Christmas this year. I know it is only the end of October and we haven’t even passed Halloween yet. But I am all too ready for the happiness and good cheer that comes along with the Christmas season!
What does this have to do with a bible study I’d recommend?
Well, Christmas gifts, of course! What better way to share the word of God than by gifting someone a study. A study that can help them to continue learning the goodness and grace of God long after Christmas is over?
With that, I would highly recommend Be Committed by Warren Wiersbe. This is part of a whole series. These series are encouraging and challenging, and this one focuses on the books of Esther and Ruth.
I ended up using this book as a small group curriculum for high school girls. I knew it was not only edifying for me to read about these women of God but also good for these girls. These girls were in the midst of learning who God was calling them to be. They would benefit from learning how God defined them, not the world around them.
After reading through this series, I can say with confidence that the books of Ruth and Esther are some of my favorite in the Bible. These women had faith greater than many,. Yet, they demonstrated their faith with such a gentle, quiet spirit that made me want to be more like them.
History, time period and details.
The study itself gives great insight into the history of their lives. Secondly it gives us the time period in which they lived, and more details surrounding their place among the other books in the Old Testament. There were places in the book of Ruth that the girls in my small group, as well as myself, had questions about; such as the threshing floor, and sleeping near Boaz’s feet. Why were these moments significant? We simply did not understand what they meant. The study helped to explain them. Therefore, it lead to even better discussions about relationships, grace, and how God works things out for those whom He loves.
It was a great study to read to help me to appreciate the depth and width of the people in the Bible. If you or someone you know is looking for a great way to encourage the women in their lives, then look this study up for sure!
Maybe now you are looking forward to Christmas this year. Well, Merry Christmas (even if that is way early!)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Sharing bible studies with others is always a blessing for both them and us. We can learn so much from each other when studying God’s word. Our mentors would love to study God’s word with you starting this Holiday season. Sign up today at www.breatheministry.com/mentor.
