Summer Reading Breathe Ministry

“The Next Right Thing” By Emily P Freeman

Ahhhhh, June is finally here! Is it just me or did May feel like F-O-R-E-V-E-R? We’ve officially started our summer. I’m going to kick back and enjoy slowing down.

Anyone remember the reading program called “Book It” when you were a kid? Your teacher gave you a coupon for a FREE personal size pizza at Pizza Hut when you read a certain number of books throughout the school year? Score!

As I got older, “Book It” faded away but teachers always encouraged summer reading. What was once a chore when I was little has become one of my favorite “decompressing” activities as an adult. Funny how that happens.

There’s so much you get from reading!

For the month of June we’re going to come up with suggestions of books we think should be on your summer reading list. Some you may have heard of, some you may have already read…either way, share your thoughts. Comment when you’ve read one that’s been suggested! Leave a review on the post as it’s shared. Tell us what books you’re planning on reading this summer so we can add them to our list!

One of my more recent reads that’s allowed me to pause is by Emily P. Freeman. She has a podcast called, “The Next Right Thing” and if you’re into podcasts, this is one to add to your list. Her voice is just lovely to listen to!

She also wrote a book with the same title. The book’s focus is on helping those with “decision fatigue”, as she calls it. You know fatigue. I know fatigue. Decision fatigue is the exhaustion that comes from handling the many choices, opinions, and expectations put on us by situations and other people. She offers small, bite size pieces of encouragement that allows you to slow down and chew on her thoughts for a little. If you haven’t picked it up — go now to Amazon and put it in your cart! It’s so worth it!

“The Next Right Thing” is just one of those books that soothes the soul and refreshes the heart.

Have you read a book like that lately? How did it leave you feeling when you were done? Tell us about it in the comments below.
