“The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi” by Kathie Lee Gifford

You may know Kathie Lee Gifford from the Today Show or Regis and Kathie Lee…but did you know that she is a born-again believer in Jesus Christ?  Not only that, but Kathie Lee is of Jewish heritage; her father was Jewish.  She considers herself a Messianic Jew; she believes “the Messiah has not only already come, but He is going to come again, this time to reign in His kingdom in a new heaven and a new earth” (Gifford 4).

I found Gifford’s book, written in 2018, while traveling through an airport last year.  Anything about the Holy Land intrigues me, so I thought I would give this book a try.  I thought I might not agree with the theology presented, but it would be an interesting read.  Gifford gives a solid testimony in the preface, and the book just got better from there.

Easy to ready with much insight

This non-fiction book is easy to read and has so much insight on the Scriptures from a Jewish perspective.  For example, did you know that the shepherds around Bethlehem were Levitical shepherds. They raised the sheep that would be sacrificed in the Temple?  And that, in order to protect baby lambs from any harm after birth, they were wrapped in swaddling cloth and laid in the manger?  They birthed the lambs in caves around Bethlehem?  Is it any wonder that these shepherds were the first to hear about the birth of THE Lamb of God?

Gifford writes from her experiences on multiple trips to Israel with several leading Biblical scholars. She invites her readers to visit dozens of destinations where the Bible took place.  You will visit lesser known places like The Brook of Elah where David picked up his five stones. Also you will visit well-known destinations such as Nazareth, The Mount of Olives, and the Garden of Gethsemane.  Messianic Jewish Rabbi Jason Sobel joins her to add even more Jewish perspective to the places Gifford describes.

If you desire to understand God’s Word better, and thus grow in your faith, head back to the land where it all began this summer with Kathie Lee Gifford’s book The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi…you will not be disappointed!
