Summer here in Chile is definitely a “slow down” time. The majority of chileans take their vacation from work some time in January or February. Churches reduce their Sunday ministries, a lot of people travel to visit family, and ministry takes on a different pace. Obviously that doesn’t mean that God stops working! I have found that the important thing during the summer months here is to be intentional. Here are some ways I have found to do that:
Invest in the ministry of your family.
Take advantage of a break in routine to build into your first disciples’ lives – your children. And spend that extra time with your spouse. Be intentional about family vacation and activities. Remind them they are a priority in your life and enjoy the extended time with them.
Invest in your relationship with church members.
A lot of people have more relaxed schedules during the summer months. Take advantage of that by inviting them to your home, or going on day trips with them. Build truth into their lives by sharing the gift of time with them. As Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works”.
Remember that rest is a good thing.
As ministry women we sometimes feel we are failing if we are not crazy busy. But God wants us to rest. Use the summer months to build in some time of rest, relaxation, and time in the Word.
It feels kind of strange to be blogging about summer ministries when we are headed into winter down here in the southern hemisphere. But I love summer here in Chile where the norm is to be intentional.
