“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built upon Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
I generally feel that I don’t take things for granted and am truly thankful for how God has blessed me. But when we think about thankfulness, being thankful, where do those thoughts lead? Very often, for me, I just think of how well I am taken care of. I think of the most recent provisions. I think of the source of an extra measure of joy that day. So many blessings. All of which I am very thankful, and try to remember to express my thankfulness to God. There’s this saying that I’ve been hearing lately: If you only receive what you thank God for, what would you have? And recently I was challenged to think a little deeper about all the blessings I do have. There is so much to be thankful for beyond physical and family blessings. But if I dig a little deeper I am thankful for all that I am today from who I was yesterday. I look back and think about where I was as a child, as a teen, twenty and even ten years ago. Sometimes it’s fun to reminisce about what was, what I’m glad is over, what I miss. All of these things, the good, the bad, and the ugly, has been used by God to make me who I am today.
Today I am imperfect and fall short in so many ways.
But today I have hope in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Today, I long and strive to be like Him, even though I fail in so many ways.
Today, this morning, I get a new day to try again.
Today, my pain of the past is healed.
Today, my heart overflows with love instead of hate.
Today, my life is not perfect, but has purpose.
Today, I am who I am because of Christ in me.
And I am not who I was without Him. And that is so much more to be thankful for than anything else in this world. Thank You God! What are you thankful for today?
