To Walk in the Unknown

Mentoring or being mentored can be an uncomfortable walk in an unknown world. Mentoring and being mentored can be also a breath of fresh air and freedom to live a healthier life. But we have to walk in the unknown to get to a healthier life.

I naturally fall into the position of mentor. It is my personality to want to help everyone. Therefore I try to fix everyone’s problems with a beautiful bow on top. But I have learned I can’t fix everyone’s problems nor should I fix them. I get in the way of God working in people to grow them spiritually. I have learned to allow the Holy Spirit to lead me to where he wants me to mentor others. But I can be loving, kind and friendly to everyone. So when the Holy Spirit leads me to where I mentor next I already have established a friendship. These friendships could allow me to have the right to be heard. This has allowed my mentor relationships to be more organic with purpose. This is what they look like for me.

Befriend a women that I have a connection with through work, church, family, school and so on.

If there’s a connection, I strengthen the friendships with purposefully conversation by getting to know them and their life.

I pursue the relationship by planning fun activities we can do together.

When my friend feels comfortable with opening her heart to me, I follow the Holy Spirit. He leads me speak the truth and pray for my friend both with her and on my own.

I have learned that the Holy Spirit guides me to have many different mentorships. This can include short mentorships, long mentorships, casual mentorships and formal mentorship.

Mentoring and being mentored can be scary and overwhelming but they are so worth it on both sides. Are you ready to walk in the unknown to get to a healthier life.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16
