Although friendships can be quite challenging and navigating them in the context of ministry is extremely challenging, we are far better together then we could ever be alone. Some of those Challenges are – Learning who to trust, how transparent and authentic is it safe to be, fearing judgement, and feeling like you always have to be on! Sometimes I really just want to be by myself. That would just be easy.
Interaction takes energy that honestly just isn’t there. I have learned that friendships and community are God’s design and Isolation is not helpful. It is selfish and dangerous.
“A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.” Proverbs 18:1 NKJV
We use the excuse that we need to recharge but what happens in these alone moments is not about rest or recharging. It is a setup and gives Satan an easy target. Satan has a lot of tricks up his sleeve to keep our focus off our kingdom purpose
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
I can not isolate myself to protect myself.
When these moments come, Satan has me against the ropes and he knows it. He will use every one of my doubts and insecurities against me. I can not isolate myself to protect myself but I have to take risks. I have to be who I am and trust others to accept that person. God created us to live in community. The concept of friendship is God’s unique design to ensure that we are not going through this life alone. We need others to encourage and build us up. We need other believers to come alongside us in advancing the kingdom. Satan would prefer not to come against a group of believers but one lone wolf is an easy target for him. Not today, Satan. Today I get to interact and join with others to do the work that God has purposed for me to do.
That you are alone in it all. This is not true.
I choose to believe that He sees me and cares. It’s that feeling that no one gets it! Thinking that no one else could possibly know and understand what you are going through. That you are alone in it all. This is not true and God promises that he sees all and cares for us and about all of our struggles.
I see all your hardships and I care about your suffering. – Psalm 31:7
We are not alone.
It is a scheme of Satan to make us feel isolated and alone. We are not alone. We have each other and I know that whatever it is, there is someone in your circle that is experiencing something very similar if not the same. Trust those that God has placed in your life. Speak up and ask for support! Because keeping you isolated, keeps you from fulfilling your purpose and it may also keep someone else bound that needs to hear your story. We need each other. We are far better together then we could ever be alone.
